What Grober Found About 2:1

A lot of the conversation around Tour Tempo focuses on the 3:1 ratio found in the full swings of great players.

But what about 2:1?

Dr. Robert Grober studied that too.

The simplest way to think about the difference is this:

3:1 behaves more like a loaded spring.
2:1 behaves more like a pendulum.

Grober went much deeper into the physics behind 2:1 in a separate paper, and there are some real golden nuggets in it.

In the video above, John also explains how this applies to putting.

One of the biggest mistakes amateurs make is taking the putter back slowly, then adding speed through impact. A true pendulum doesn’t work that way.

Think equal force back, equal force through.
