A lot of golfers want to know if I "practice what I preach."
Well, I'm 56, and at a recent range session, I hit a shot with 201 mph of ball speed.
Another had 198 mph of ball speed and 374 yards of CARRY, straight down the middle.
So, as you'll see in the above video, yes, I practice what I preach!
And here's a summary of how I do it:
Establish Tempo, specifically, Tour Tempo ⏱️
Priming the body and "feels" 💪
Mechanics, aka loading the Power Sources ⚙️
No thinking (during swing anyway)🧠
Here are the detailed steps for this particular range session:
I started the session off with a basic warm up (you can find one in my Tour Tempo Master Class) and then I hit a few wedges.
From there, I ramped things up with some of my speed tools (especially the Drag-N-Fly) and then I hit at least a dozen drivers in my 21/7 tempo.
When I want to swing for speed, I start by alternating between a few hits with my driver and doing Drag-N-Fly drills.
The Drag-N-Fly primes the system with safe resistance and gets you to increase force (without thinking about it).
At this stage, I'm primarily looking at my clubhead speed, and on this particular day, my clubhead speed started at ~135 mph, so I knew it would be a good day.
Once I reached 136-137 mph, I started to focus on making better contact because a solid hit would get my ball speed up to ~200 mph.
I wasn't feeling my glutes 🍑 on the downswing, so I did my version of David Weck's "Royal Coils" to engage the lat/glute connection...and then BOOM! I uncorked one with 201 mph of ball speed!
Now, you don't play great golf based on ball speed alone, so I did a few more "feel" drills and then re-focused on solid contact/ball flight (aka, spin/launch).
That helped me produce a shot with 198 mph ball speed and 374 yards of carry...right down main street!
Yes, as can tell from the video, I get a little excited about this stuff.
Again, I'm 56 and I'm hitting the ball as long (or longer) than I did in my 20s!
If you want to be excited about your game, too...
Let's connect and see what we can do together.
You can come see me in Lawrence, Kansas for private speed lessons (I also make house calls)...
Or simply get started with the Drag-N-Fly (which comes with video lessons).
Either way, I want you to safely tap into the additional speed and distance I KNOW is hiding in your swing.
This game is so much easier — and fun — when a "lack of distance" no longer holds you back!
