If you step into the ball with a lot of "mechanical" swing thoughts running through your head...
There's a good chance you're tensing up by the second, to the point of being "frozen" right before you swing.
From that static position, you then have to jerk the club back — and that's not a good way to start any motion that benefits more from being "fluid."
This is where a pre-shot routine can really help, but not just ANY pre-shot routine.

You can tap into feel and creativity (rather than thinking about a million things at once)...
And actually "play golf" vs. making swings.
